17 – 18 March 2020
Guildford Regional Office
This course is aimed at Branch Women’s Officers and women Stewards.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission estimate that up to 53,000 women are sacked every year after declaring that they are pregnant to their employer. returning to work after maternity leave can be equally problematic for women. For example, there still remains a huge amount of stigma around the dedication of new mothers to their jobs and this can manifest itself in acts that could be discriminatory, for example, lack of opportunity to progress and never being promoted, little opportunity for training, being bullied, refused reasonable requests for flexible hours. This course will give you the opportunity to understand the current legislation and examine the provisions in your own workplace policies, as well as gaining skills to support members using case studies.
The course will cover:
- Introduction to Maternity and Parental leave Regulations 1999 (MAPLR)
- Compare statutory rights with contractually agreed rights
- Advising members – Case studies
- Campaigns to improve maternity, paternity and parental rights
