Regional Young Members AGM

27 January 2022 4:00pm–5:30pm

Online Meeting

The Young Members’ Forum provides an opportunity to meet likeminded young members to discuss important issues affecting young workers. It is an opportunity to create and execute activities and campaigns and ensure that young members are fairly represented within UNISON democratic structures.

The Regional Young Members’ AGM will be taking place this year virtually on Thursday 27th January 2022, 4-5:30pm.

In order to accommodate this and ensure that members in the South East have the opportunity to participate fairly and democratically, we have made some slight changes to the normal processes and timescales.

Everything you need to know, including details on registering to attend, nominating yourself or members within your branch for election, and submitting motions for debate, can be found below.

Holding our meeting online means that this could potentially be the biggest Regional Young Members’ AGM we’ve ever held in the region. We very much hope to see a great turnout on 27 January!

Attending the Young Members’ AGM

All delegates and visitors to the Regional Young Members’ AGM 2022 must themselves be UNISON members aged 26 or under.

Branches are invited to register up to five AGM delegates who will be able to participate in the election for contested positions and vote on key items of business.

All young members in your branch should be given equal opportunity to put themselves forward.

The deadline for registering your delegates is 5pm on Thursday 6 January.

Additionally, any young members who are not delegates are welcome to attend the AGM as virtual visitors. The deadline for visitors registering to attend is also Thursday 6 January.

All registered delegates and visitors will receive a link to the meeting and paperwork for the AGM by email on 13 January.

Elections

Branches and individual young members are invited to submit nominations to the Regional Young Members’ Forum as well as various internal and external bodies, which will be elected at the AGM.

Nominations can be received from a branch or as a self-nomination. All nominees must themselves be young members from the South East region.

If you would like to find out more about the different positions on the Young Members’ Forum then please click here. Please note that this is guidance and has not been formally endorsed  by the forum. You can find more information about the various committees on our regional website or email Rosie Sammut with any questions you have.

Candidates may be asked to submit an election address of up to 500 words.

The deadline for nominations and for election addresses to be received is 5pm on 30 December 2021.

For any contested posts, all registered delegates will receive voting papers in advance of the AGM. The ballot will close before the meeting.

The results of any ballots and any uncontested posts will then have their elections ratified at the AGM.

Access Requirements

UNISON recognises that in order for our members to fully participate, it may be necessary to make some adjustments so that we can ensure, so far as is reasonably practical, that everyone has the same opportunity to take part across our structures. For more on this, please see UNISON’s guidelines for virtual meetings.

If you require any adjustments to be made to facilitate your participation in a virtual meeting, please complete the Access Passport and return to committee administrator Rosie Sammut by 5pm on Thursday 6 January 2022.

If you have previously completed an access passport and require adjustments for this meeting, please complete a new version of the passport and return it to Rosie Sammut as soon as possible because of the differing requirements from a physical meeting compared to one being held online.
