“I’ve been a member for over 14 years, nearly as long as I’ve been with the TRUST.”
How long have you been a steward?
“About 7 years.”
Why did you become a steward? What made you take this step?
“I was asked to be a steward and I wanted to be able to help and
support people and give them a voice, I can do that as a steward.”
What’s the best thing about being a UNISON steward?
“Being able to help if needed, I also enjoy the training. It gives you a different view of everything and you meet lots of different people. It has been a massive eye opener.”
What would you say to someone who is thinking about becoming a steward?
“I would say ‘try it’. When you start helping someone out, the fact that you’ve been there for them at a difficult time, often just being a listening ear and helping empower them is really rewarding. Most members are able to solve their own problems with a bit of support.”
