A visit from our General Secretary

Christina McAnea visited the Isle of Wight as part of Stars in Our Schools 2021 and to celebrate the achievements of the island’s health branch over the last 25 years

The Isle of Wight Health and Local Government branches welcomed UNISON General Secretary Christina McAnea to the island over the weekend of 27 November.

Christina attended a series of events, including a celebration of the 25th birthday of the health branch where she presented branch secretary Jay Chappell with an award to mark the occasion.

Christina also attended a Stars In Our Schools event at St George’s School in Newport, a secondary school for children with special education needs. There she met the headteacher and local UNISON representatives followed by an after school meeting with support staff, where low pay and the importance of voting in the local government pay ballot was discussed.

Christina thanked UNISON members and public service workers right across the Isle of Wight for the immense commitment to their work they have shown throughout the pandemic to keep vital services functioning, often at great risk to themselves.
