The event was part of UNISON’s annual Stars in our Schools celebrations, which marked its tenth anniversary on Friday 29 November. Schools have been marking the day since 2015 by organising events to highlight the vital role school support staff play.
Caterers, administrative staff, teaching assistants and librarians were among those who will be honoured at the awards ceremony. More than 200 nominations were submitted by parents, students and colleagues.
UNISON South East regional organiser Louise Barter said: “It’s fantastic to have local MP Peter Swallow show his support for schools’ unsung heroes.
“Stars in our Schools is a brilliant way to celebrate the hard work these vital members of staff do, often with little recognition.
“Government plans to improve how their wages are negotiated with a new body is an important first step in boosting the pay of school support staff.”
