Regional Labour Link officers visit Parliament

After an historic year, where UNISON Labour Link played a vital part in securing a Labour government, the South East Labour Link Committee held its final meeting of the year in Westminster.

With the support of MP’s staff, Labour Link officers were treated to a personal tour of the House of Commons in the morning. Our tour guides were knowledgeable on the extensive history of the Palace of Westminster, and were able to take activists out on to the famous terrace for a photo op, followed by lunch in Portcullis House. Needless to say, this was a lot more than your regular tourist gets when they sign up for a tour.

After lunch, the committee were joined by 10 MPs from every corner of the region for the committee meeting. This was a brilliant opportunity for vital engagement on topics including local government reorganisation, issues faced by migrant workers in the social care sector, and of course, pay across all public services. The value of building this strong relationship with our South East MPs cannot be understated.

On behalf of the Labour Link Committee, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all the MPs who joined us, and to their staff for showing us around the ‘corridors of power’. A great day was had by all.
