UNISON retired members in the South East have a wealth of experience and knowledge that make them a valuable part of UNISON campaigns.
Our retired members work closely with other member groups on almost every issue that affects workers in the UK, as well as fighting for quality public services, on which many older people rely.
UNISON is the only British trade union with a retired members’ group. Becoming a retired member means that you stay actively involved in issues that affect you and your peers.
The latest government figures show that 27% of pensioners live below the poverty line. UNISON’s retired members play an active role to improve the lives of pensioners and to help create a fairer society. UNISON South East retired members campaign:
-
to improve legislation and rights for retired people
-
for decent income in older age and proper pension provision
-
against discrimination, including age discrimination
-
for quality public services for all.
Get involved
Many South East branches have active retired members sections and are responsible for leading campaigns on issues for retired members. They also get together socially for outings and events.
Speak to your local UNISON representative if you would like more information about becoming a retired member or joining your local retired members’ section.
