If you think you might like to become more active in your union then we are happy to offer the training.
No one ever said its easy being a Trade Union Activists, but it is rewarding and you do develop a whole range of skills.
Whether you are interested in becoming a new Steward, Health and Safety rep or Branch Officer you have a very important part to play in the success of our union. The members you represent rely on you to be their voice within your employer and UNISON recognises that you need to be able to rely on your union to support you in carrying out that role.
UNISON South East have developed a dedicated activist education programme that provides a wide and varied range of courses.
These courses are tailored to support each and every activist role within the union and we consistently receive very positive feedback from members who have attended.
If you have recently become a UNISON Steward or workplace representative, you are probably feeling slightly anxious about what you have let yourself in for. Don’t panic! We have put together a 17-day programme of training which we recommend for all new Stewards.
Health and Safety reps
We all expect our workplaces to be as safe and healthy as possible – this doesn’t happen by chance. If you have recently been elected as a Health and Safety rep, we have put together a 14-day training course which we recommend for all new Health and Safety reps.
As 76% of our members in the South East are women, UNISON run a series of women-only training courses, including a 16-day training programme for new Branch Women Officers.
UNISON South East also run additional courses throughout the year- from Dealing with Reorganisation through to Using Social Media.
Branch based training courses
Branches may wish to arrange their own local versions of the courses we arrange in the region. For guidance on how to do this and to make a request, please use this form.
