Following a survey sent out to branches to ask our members about their awareness or experience of Operation Hampshire, a National Initiative focussed on improving the response to assaults on Police Officers and Police Staff, we are really pleased to announce that , Dave Brewster, National Operation Hampshire Co-ordinator for the National Police Wellbeing Service has agreed to speak at a virtual meeting set up exclusively for UNISON Police Staff members.

Our survey revealed that 81% of respondents from 28 different forces were unaware of the existence of Operation Hampshire and didn’t know that support was available in their force should they ever be subjected to an assault at work.

In this meeting, chaired by Mark Trask, Vice-Chair of UNISON’s Police and Justice Service Group Executive and SGE lead for Operation Hampshire, Dave Brewster will cover the following topics:

  • Every assault has a potential impact beyond physical injury.
  • This is about the entire police family.
  • The fundamental principles are to ensure meaningful support and victim care for all colleagues and to hold offenders to account
  • Everyone has a part to play across the organisation from driving the force strategy to frontline supervision and victim care.
  • As a victim of assault you have a right to be supported and should report assaults to ensure the appropriate action is taken.
  • Every force has a senior Op Hampshire lead if you need to know more about your local policy.

There will be a Q&A session after the main presentation to give all attendees an opportunity to ask questions.

Participants will be encouraged to put their questions into the chat box in Teams, so that if time runs out, or an attendee is not able to stay until the end, all questions will still have been recorded and can be answered and circulated after the meeting.

If you would like to attend this meeting, please email d.houlihan@unison.co.uk and a link will be sent to you.
