UNISON South East joins the NEC delegation to Cuba

Register your interest in joining the delegation

Our region will be joining the NEC’s International Committee delegation to Cuba from the 26 November to 4 December this year. This will be the first national UNISON delegation in many years. The delegation is being organised with the Cuba Solidarity Campaign.

Our region’s International Relations Committee has agreed to fund the cost of one activist from the region to join the national delegation. If you are interested in taking this place, please email Kieran Pearson by 5pm on Friday 3 August 2018 and – in 500 words or less – outline why you would be the best person to represent our region’s members on the delegation.

Potential delegates will need to guarantee they are available on the trip dates (you will need to arrange and agree your own leave from work). The successful applicant will also be required to produce a report on their experiences and attend meetings around the region to help educate our activists about the issues facing public sector workers in Cuba. These will likely include the International Committee meeting in Guildford on 12 December and at least one Regional Council meeting in 2019. Applicants are encouraged to consider any local fundraising they could potentially undertake to both help with the cost of funding their attendance and show solidarity with the people of Cuba, and include this in their application.

The delegation will meet with the CTC (the Cuban TUC), our sister unions SNTS (health) and SNTAP (public administration) and the Cuban Federation of Women. It will include workplace visit to hospitals, polyclinics, schools and local government offices in both Havana and the Pinar del Rio region.

The delegation will fly-out from London on 26th November and return from Havana on 3rd December, arriving in London on the 4th.
