Reading Ahead Launch at UNISON Centre

The Reading Agency runs an annual reading challenge for adult readers, Reading Ahead. The scheme challenges less confident readers to choose six reads – this could be poems, articles, or books such as the Quick Reads series, and readers are encouraged to record their reading in a diary, to get a certificate at the end.  Celebrated crime writer Ann Cleeves launched this year’s challenge at UNISON Centre last week.

Ann is famous for her books that have been made into two popular television series, Vera and Shetland on ITV. Ann was promoting the last book in the Shetland series, Wild Fire, and spoke in support of public libraries, without which she would not have gained the commercial and critical success that she enjoys today.

Could you run a Reading Ahead challenge in your workplace? If you need some help getting started, get in touch. We have limited stock of the Quick Reads series launched in February, bookmarks and reading diaries to record progress. Contact us on sememberlearning@unison.co.uk if you would like to order any of the Quick Reads, reading diaries or bookmarks. These are free to branches and great way to get started!
