But employers still haven’t gone ‘far enough’ says UNISON
Commenting on the latest inflation figures, UNISON assistant general secretary Christina McAnea said: “With inflation much higher than wages, nurses, teaching assistants and care staff are getting poorer. “The government’s harsh approach to public sector pay is completely out of step with the public mood. “Every day the pay cap stays, public sector employees are […]
Public sector pay is in the news – but what exactly are the numbers behind the pay cap?
Together, UNISON can win for all public sector workers, wherever you work, and deliver that long-overdue pay rise
Something has to change for the better.” Anonymous “A single parent, I lost my relatively […]
Since the election on June 8th the debate over ending austerity has been raging stronger than ever. It’s now important that everyone in our movement keeps the pressure on the government. The end to the pay cap needs to be the first stage in austerity’s downfall. Public sector workers like ambulance drivers, nurses and […]
It may now be August and summer is well under way, but for our major pay campaign – Pay Up Now – it’s still full steam ahead. We’re fighting for all public sector workers to get the pay rise you need and deserve, so there won’t be any let up in the campaign until the […]
We’re not satisfied with ending the pay cap. We want to see public sector workers recover the real terms losses they’ve been subjected to over nearly a decade of austerity. To kick off the next stage of UNISON’s ‘Pay Up Now!’ campaign, UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis has […]
This afternoon at the TUC, I was proud to lead the debate on public sector pay. For UNISON’s 1.3 million members, and millions more like them, there is no more important issue.

The motion would commit Gloucestershire council to support ending the public sector pay cap, which has meant average pay for public employees decreased in value by £3,875 since 2010. Labour councillors proposing the public […]
NHS unions are today (Friday) breaking with tradition and submitting a pay claim directly to the government on behalf of more than one million health workers across the UK. ‘NHS staff and their families need a pay award that stops the rot’
UNISON has today (Wednesday) expressed disappointment at the pay offer put forward by the Association of Colleges. The union believes the offer of a one per cent increase or £250, whichever is greater, will plunge college staff further into poverty. UNISON head of education Jon Richards said: “This offer is hugely disappointing. It will do little […]
