Young Members Network Event

19 November 2021 12:00pm–5:00pm

UNISON Centre, Euston Road, London

As part of TUC Young Workers’ Month, the South East Young Members’ Forum have arranged a Young Members’ Network day on Friday 19 November – you won’t want to miss it!

This event is open to all young members across the South East and is a great opportunity to meet other young workers.

We’ve listened to YOU and have arranged 2 workshops as part of the day; Your Rights at Work and Imposter Syndrome & Young Workers.

We are excited to announce that the guest speaker for this event is Sam Gurney, Regional Secretary at TUC (Trades Union Congress) LESE! Sam is also the acting head of the TUC’s Equality and Strategy Department which puts the TUC’s equality work at the heart of the organisation.

Lunch will be provided and the event will start promptly at 12:30. All attendees of the event will receive an exclusive UNISON South East Young Members goody bag to celebrate the contributions of young members to the trade union movement!

Your Rights at Work

This workshop will discuss your rights at work, listen to your concerns and offer advice on issues affecting you in the workplace. This session will cover:

  • Where do our rights come from?
  • What are your rights at work?
  • How can trade unions help tackle issues at work?

Imposter Syndrome & Young Workers

Imposter Syndrome, sometimes called Imposter Phenomenon, is an often misunderstood and an underestimated challenge UK young workers experience. This session will cover:

  • What is Imposter Syndrome?
  • How does it affect young people in the workplace?
  • How does it affect young people with protected characteristics?
  • How can we combat its effects?

As this is a trade union event, you may be entitled to time off work (facility time) to attend. You can view a guide on how to request this here or please email Rosie Sammut for support.

All reasonable expenses including travel and childcare can be covered by your UNISON branch. If you’re unsure who to speak to, or would like some support with talking to your branch, then please do not hesitate to get in contact with Rosie Sammut

We really hope you can join us and please circulate our leaflet!
