West Berks branch sponsor local charity team

Never mind the World Cup, meet the Newbury charity football team scoring for UNISON!

Last week UNISON West Berkshire Branch began sponsoring the Newbury Community Resource Centre charity football team. They play in the BOBi League (Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Inclusive League) which is a football league providing competitive playing opportunities for children and adults who have physical and learning difficulties. The BOBi League serves the Thames Valley region and neighbouring counties. The team are also currently top of their league too!

The UNISON West Berkshire branch have been trying to build as many community links in West Berkshire as possible and are very proud to sponsor the Newbury Community Resource Centre and everything that they do. The NCRC are a local charity who help to support local people in need. They promote independent living by providing re-used furniture and household goods and opportunities for volunteering, training and work experience. In addition to this they also seek to promote the conservation, protection and improvement of the natural environment. If you would like to donate to them you can visit their website

UNISON West Berkshire believe that building strong community links is a very important role for a trade union to play. This is as many members will live and work in the community and building these links is pivotal to who UNISON are as unions act with collectivism at the heart of what they do so working with local community organisations such as the Newbury Community Resource Centre fits perfectly into the ethos of what local UNISON branches such as the West Berkshire branch aim to do.
