UNISON Celebrates Ventnor Day 2022

On 2 July 2022 UNISON representatives joined the community festivities on the Isle of Wight

The UNISON marquee was in prime position to join the festivities for Ventnor Day, held on the Isle of Wight on Saturday 2 July.

The community event hosted by the Ventnor Carnival Association and Ventnor Town Council, celebrated the town’s community spirit with music, performance, stalls and food, within the picturesque and sunny setting of Ventnor Park.

There were activities for all ages, bands, stalls from local and Island based community groups, charities, arts and crafts. UNISON Isle of Wight Local Government Branch Secretary Mark Chiverton and UNISON Regional Organiser James Smith attended to represent the union at the UNISON marquee and information table.

UNISON representatives engaged with attendees to promote the role of trade unions and let people know how to join UNISON. We also took the opportunity to remind existing union members of services available to them.

It was also a particularly valuable opportunity to publicise existing pay campaigns and getting involved in UNISON.

UNISON Regional Organiser James Smith said, “It’s great to again be part of such a successful community event in Ventnor.

“UNISON’s strong presence on the island has been built through hard work of branch representatives over many years and I think it is good that we can be seen in the public eye, particularly at a time when being in a strong trade union is so important.”
