UNISON South East’s Regional Council Annual General Meeting took place on 8 February 2020 in London.
Along with the usual business of electing our committees and representatives for the year ahead, the packed meeting heard a range of motions including calling on the union to declare a climate emergency. Two motions were selected as regional motions for National Delegate Conference, Green UNISON and the Climate Emergency and Fighting Local Authority Cuts.
Most hotly contested were the roles of Deputy Regional Convenor and the Regional Delegates to TUC Congress. Thank you to everyone who put their name forward to serve their union in the coming year and congratulations to all those elected.
You can find information on who was elected here, and details of any vacancies remaining in the region. Branches and Self Organised Groups have until 2 April to nominate to these vacancies. A ballot of Regional Council delegates will be held in the event of any seats being contested.
The meeting also heard the moving story behind the Truth About Zane campaign, from the father of Zane Gbangbola.
The Regional Constitution was updated. You can view and download the new version here.
The meeting agreed a new Regional Equality Action Plan and a number of updates to the Regional Strategy.
The meeting was the launch for The BIG Weekend, which takes place this year on 1-3 May in Southampton. You can find out more about this exciting event on The BIG Weekend event page.
It was great to see activists from branches across the region taking part in this important democratic event in the region’s calendar. We look forward to seeing you all again in May at The BIG Weekend!
